Video Gets The Message Across

When gathering ideas and viewpoints, video is an ideal medium to put them across, letting people carry the message themselves.  We've just launched our YouTube channel 'sustainabilityconsul' and the first video on there is one we prepared on innovation following the ENDS Debate 'Can Innovation Lead Us Out Of The Climate Crisis?'.

We interviewed stars in their field, from the European Commission, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), IDEAcarbon and CECED and asked them all what role innovation has to play in solving today's challenges.  The answers can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJnqEI_1XCM

Innovation is partly about technology but also about new approaches and new ways of doing things.  First the internet revolution and then the success of platforms like YouTube and twitter show that anybody can publish themselves, their video clips and their views.  When these new tools are harnessed for good and to mobilise people as they did in the recent demonstrations in Iran, the power of this shifting mindset is immense.

But the challenge to be heard in the sea of voices is even bigger in the new media landscape than in the traditional media.  A new book co-authored by Sustainability Consult Network member Silvia Cambié ‘International Communications Strategy: Developments in Cross-Cultural Communications, PR and Social Media’ looks at these issues and shows success stories.  We've invited Silvia to share some of her nuggets of wisdom on this blog in the coming weeks.  Until then, the book is available at http://www.amazon.co.uk/International-Communications-Strategy-Developments-Cross-Cultural/dp/074945329X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1248361498&sr=8-1.
